AI Assistant

Troubleshoot issues, analyze data, and search across projects

Last updated: 2026-05-21

S3Suite includes a built-in AI assistant called Square that helps you troubleshoot issues, analyze device data, and find information across your projects. Square is grounded in your S3Suite data and only answers questions about your projects, devices, production lots, files, support tickets, and engineering history.

What Square Does

Square can:

  • Troubleshoot device issues - Describe a problem and get suggested causes and solutions drawn from your project data, RMAs, and knowledge-base entries
  • Analyze trends - Patterns in device health, tolerance failures, production pass rates, firmware distribution, RMA root causes
  • Search project data - Find specific information across files, devices, RMAs, support tickets, and knowledge base without navigating menus
  • Surface evidence - Cite the specific document, lot, or test report behind every answer so you can verify the source

What Square Does NOT Do

Square is intentionally scoped to your S3Suite product-engineering work. It will politely decline:

  • General-purpose questions unrelated to your products (weather, news, recipes, generic essays)
  • Image, logo, or artwork generation
  • Code, script, or website generation
  • Throwaway temp-mail or disposable use cases
If you ask something outside scope, Square explains what it can answer instead.

How to Use Square

  1. Open Square from the sidebar (the glowing-square icon)
  2. Type your question in plain language
  3. Square responds with relevant information, suggestions, or analysis - with bracket-numbered citations to the source files or records

Square tip bubbles

Around the dashboard you'll see small Square tip bubbles - context-aware nudges that appear next to specific modules (BOM, RMA, Firmware, etc.) suggesting questions you can ask Square right from that page. Click the bubble to open Square pre-loaded with the suggested prompt. Bubbles dismiss themselves once you interact, and the same bubble doesn't reappear on subsequent visits.

Example Questions

  • "What are the most common reasons for RMA in the Smart Sensor project?"
  • "Which devices are out of tolerance in lot L-2025-042?"
  • "Show me lots with the lowest pass rates in the last 30 days"
  • "What firmware version is running on each device in the field?"
  • "Summarize the root cause analysis for device SN-0847"
  • "Which component in the BOM has obsolescence risk?"
  • "What changed between firmware v2.3 and v2.4?"
Square pulls from your actual project data - files, devices, RMAs, test reports, knowledge base entries, support tickets - so the answers are specific to your work, not generic.

Chat History

Square keeps your conversation history per user, so you can:

  • Pick up where you left off - close the chat, open it again later, and your previous messages are still there
  • Switch devices - your history follows you when you sign in from another browser or machine
  • Clear when needed - click Clear to start a fresh conversation. The history view resets immediately
Each user's chat history is private. Other users in your organization cannot see your conversations.

Daily Limit

Each user has a daily Square chat allowance to keep usage fair across the organization. If you hit the limit, Square explains when it resets and gives you a link to contact support. Reach out if your work needs a higher limit.

Role-Based Scope

Square respects your S3Suite role permissions. The information it surfaces is limited to what your role is allowed to see:

  • Engineers - engineering files, BOM, firmware, test reports, manufacturing handoff data, vendor records
  • Production Managers - manufacturing variants, lots, test reports, vault, BOM health, vendor records
  • Operations - deployed devices, warranty, RMA, support tickets, knowledge base, firmware updates
  • Admins - everything above
If you ask Square about an area outside your role, it tells you it does not have access rather than guessing.

AI Provider

Square is powered by one of two providers, configured by your organization's admin:

ProviderModel
AnthropicClaude
OpenAIGPT
The admin selects the provider and model in the Admin Panel. Both providers deliver strong results; the choice is usually based on organizational preference or existing agreements.
Note: Your project data is sent to the AI provider to generate responses. Review your organization's data handling policies if this is a concern.

When Square is Unavailable

If Square is temporarily unavailable (network issues, provider outage):

  • The chat shows an "unavailable" message
  • The rest of S3Suite continues working normally - no other features are affected
  • Square becomes available again automatically when the connection is restored
Tip: Square is a tool to help you work faster, not a replacement for engineering judgment. Always verify critical findings through your own analysis.
